Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal’s injury problems have slightly eased ahead of the Reds’ Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven tomorrow night.
Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marouane Fellaini are all in line for a return at Old Trafford after missing the dramatic win against Watford at the weekend, but Phil Jones and Ander Herrera are sidelined with injuries they picked up at Vicarage Road.
Luke Shaw, Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia have all been ruled out with long-term injury problems, but Bastian Schweinsteiger may still play a part despite missing training today after van Gaal explained that the German was given a day off to recover.

van Gaal also revealed in the pre-match press conference that Shaw has been given a break from his recovery routine, and the defender will have a scan on Friday to see how his recovery from a broken leg (suffered against PSV in the reverse fixture back in September) has progressed.
The Dutchman told MUTV:
I’m very happy to tell you that [they can return], more or less, because you never know as they haven’t trained so much this week and also before this week, Rooney is recovered and Martial can play. Fellaini can play. So that’s great news, I think.
Jones and Herrera cannot play. It’s too soon because they also need recovery time. So I have five injured players.
He [Schweinsteiger] needed a recovery day, but that doesn’t mean he can’t play [against PSV].
