Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has revealed that although he is the leader of his club and country on the pitch, he has to take a back seat when it comes to controlling the music in the dressing room.
The 30-year-old striker says that winger Ashley Young is the main man when it comes to choosing the pre-match music for the team – but Rooney himself and Bastian Schweinsteiger do like to choose some of it themselves, too.
In an interview with Sport magazine, Rooney admitted that the music is a bit different when he and Schweinsteiger take charge – with the last artist he put on in the dressing room being Tina Turner.
Could that be having an impact on the team’s performances? Instead of listening to ‘Private Dancer’, should the Red Devils instead go for something a bit closer to home? The Courteeners, Oasis and the Stone Roses all have harder-hitting tunes to get the squad pumped up; and of course, they hail from Manchester.
Rooney didn’t reveal what Young likes to go for with his usual choice of pre-match music, but let’s hope it’s something a bit more invigorating than Rooney’s choices.
