Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has been named as the Vauxhall England Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Voting was open for the past couple of weeks and concluded on Sunday, with the 30-year-old garnering 37 percent of the vote to claim the England Player of the Year accolade for the fourth time.
It has been a tremendous year for Rooney on the international stage, as he became the Three Lions’ all-time record goalscorer in 2015, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing record with a penalty against Switzerland at Wembley in September.

In his eight appearances for the country during 2015, he scored five goals and assisted two as the Three Lions qualified for Euro 2016 with a perfect record in the qualifying phase.
The award may come as a surprise to some club fans as they will feel that Rooney will not deserve the award due to his poor performances with the Reds in the latter stages of last season and the early stages of the current one.
However, this award has been voted for by England fans and based solely on his performances for the Three Lions and Rooney is a worthy winner, given that he has broken a record that had stood for 45 years.

Rooney will be presented with the award ahead of England’s friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands in March as they build-up to the main event in France this summer.
