Team News – Derby County vs Manchester United

Manchester United have both good news and bad news in regards to their injury situation ahead of their FA Cup fourth round clash against Derby County on Friday.

Michael Carrick is available for the first time since making his 400th appearance against Sheffield United in the FA Cup at the start of the month, but he will not be playing 90 minutes at the iPro Stadium.

However, Matteo Darmian will be sidelined for the game against the Rams. The Italian was taken off last weekend against Southampton after colliding with Shane Long, and although the Italian’s injury is better than first feared, he will not play any part in proceedings tomorrow night.

United manager Louis van Gaal gave this latest update during his weekly interview with MUTV:

It’s more or less the same. Darmian is now out and maybe Michael Carrick shall come in but of course, he’s not able to play 90 minutes. But it’s very good he is coming back. With Darmian, it is very positive actually. It’s not too severe but he’s not able to play against Derby.

The Dutchman also gave an update on Bastian Schweinsteiger and Phil Jones, who have both been sidelined with injuries since the start of the new year:

I cannot say [if they are close] because every time I make a remark about injuries it is always difficult because injuries have developments and you have to wait and see. Also they have to train and be adapted to the rhythm of the Premier League which is high. When you are more weeks injured it takes more time to adapt to that rhythm.

Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young remain on the sidelines with long-term injuries.
