Manchester United will be without Bastian Schweinsteiger for their trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Sunday.
Louis van Gaal gave the latest update on the German’s fitness during his weekly pre-match interview with MUTV. The 31-year-old has been sidelined with a knee injury he picked during United’s FA Cup victory against Sheffield United in early January.
However, the United manager indicated that Phil Jones could be making a return to action in the next couple of weeks. The defender, who turns 24 later this month, has been back in training with the first-team at Carrington.

Long-term absentees Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw are also making good progress in their respective recoveries from injury, according to the Dutchman.
He said:
There is some light at the end of the tunnel, I think. Jones is coming back. He has trained today [Friday] with the first team so that’s good. Rojo is doing well. It’s not that he can train with us but, still, he is doing well. Shaw is doing well and Valencia is doing well so it’s not bad. Schweinsteiger is still out, yes.
There was no update on Ashley Young’s status, with the utility man expected to be out for a few months after sustaining a groin injury against Liverpool in the middle of January.

Marouane Fellaini was also not mentioned by van Gaal. The Belgian limped off down the Old Trafford towards the end of United’s convincing 3-0 victory over Stoke last weekend, and it may just be that the midfielder did not sustain an injury, but was instead suffering from a bout of cramp.
