Di Maria blames Van Gaal for Man Utd nightmare

Paris Saint-Germain winger and former Manchester United man Angel di Maria has finally expressed his true feelings as to why he never really got going at Old Trafford.

The Argentina international provided some beautiful moments, such as his incredible chipped goal against Leicester City, but never found the form which saw him win the Champions League with Real Madrid and gain him recognition as one of the world’s elite.

He won United’s goal of the month and player of the month awards in September 2014 – his first month with the club, but it all went downhill from there, as United struggled to produce the kind of performances their fans were so accustomed to against Sir Alex Ferguson.

The attacker said [quotes from the Daily Star]:

It’s not nice to say certain things, but it’s more that they didn’t let me settle properly than I couldn’t settle.

I left and that team are still playing the same way. Out of the European competitions, far from being champions of the Premier League. I don’t think it was my fault or the fault of my team-mates.

Angel di Maria, like many fans, can see that there is a bigger problem at the Theatre of Dreams. He also claims that his lack of a fixed positional role was unsettling to him:

I started a game in one position, then the next game in another. I scored goals playing in one position, then suddenly the next game I was picked to play in a different position.
