While the current Manchester United defence isn’t as strong as those of yesteryear, they are still a force to be reckoned with, as they have kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season with 15.
Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and a fit Luke Shaw would all be fairly certain to be picked for their country on a regular basis while the emergence of Guillermo Varela, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson this season indicates that the youthfulness United have at the back.
Although the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra are almost certainly better defenders than the current class at Old Trafford, the depth of young talent waiting in the ranks means that this class could yet develop into something promising.
