Manchester United will reunite with a familiar opponent on Saturday as they face Wigan Athletic in their first pre-season match of the summer.
The Latics had spent nine consecutive seasons in the Premier League up until a few seasons ago, where they and the Reds regularly met in league matches and even a Carling Cup final just over ten years ago.
However, Wigan were relegated to League One since they last faced United in the Premier League before they were promoted back into the Championship for this season. Therefore, the Reds can expect to face a very different set of players to those they were so used to seeing only a few years ago.
Amongst Wigan’s current crop is Euro 2016 favourite Will Grigg, although the striker did not play a single minute for Northern Ireland at this summer’s tournament.
With Jose Mourinho now set to take charge of United against Latics, let’s take a look at the Reds’ last five matches against the fellow North-West outfit.
