Mkhitaryan: I’ll play anywhere for United

Manchester United’s latest signing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, enjoyed a promising debut against Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon, as he played in the first 45 minutes of a 2-0 win at the DW Stadium.

Having played across the front of midfield for former club Borussia Dortmund, the Armenian international’s attacking versatility could be key for Jose Mourinho in the upcoming campaign.

The Portuguese boss opted to play Mkhitaryan in the ‘number 10’ position against Wigan, and he instantly endeared himself to the masses of travelling United fans as he glided past opposition defenders and looked threatening every time he had the ball at his feet.

After the game, Henrikh, or ‘Micki’ as he likes to be called, was asked where he would feel most comfortable – on the left wing, the right, or through the middle as he was played against the Latics. His answer?

“It doesn’t matter where! I think the most important thing is to play and to help the team win games – that’s the main thing”

Mkhitaryan is expected to be used on the right wing once Wayne Rooney is back in the squad, but some healthy competition for the England captain can only be a good thing!
