United-City Beijing clash cancelled

Manchester United have officially confirmed that today’s scheduled clash with Manchester City has been called off.

The match has been cancelled due to the adverse conditions of the pitch. The weather in Beijing has been far from perfect and the pitch has been affected as a result.

The pitch is currently covered in wet mud and puddles, meaning that it is unsafe for the players to play on.

Manchester United were due to face Manchester City in the International Champions Cup tournament. It would have been the first ever Manchester derby to have been played outside of England, but that will now have to wait for another time.

The match will not be rescheduled, meaning this is a definite cancellation. Although many supporters will be upset with the decision, it was made in the best interests of all parties involved and appears to be the correct call in terms of player safety.

Manchester United’s next pre-season game will take place against Galatasaray in Gothenburg, Sweden on Saturday 30th July – with United’s squad being a complete one, rather than being the unfinished article which is currently in China.
