The Football Association have surprisingly revealed that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is suspended for the Reds’ opening match of the Premier League season against Bournemouth.
It turns out that the Frenchman’s bookings from Italy have been carried over after his return to England and he will serve a one-match suspension after accumulating two yellow cards during Juventus’ run to another Coppa Italia win.
Pogba was booked during the Old Lady’s semi-final victory over Inter Milan and in the final against AC Milan – which turned out to be the 23-year-old’s final match for the Turin side.

The Frenchman was unlikely to make his debut against the Cherries, given that he has just returned from holiday after participating in France’s run to the final during Euro 2016 and only started pre-season training this week.
However, United manager José Mourinho only found out about Pogba’s ban this week (as quoted by Sky Sports):
I knew the situation with the yellow cards. But I didn’t know at that time if an accumulation of yellows would bring a player to suspension, or that one in Italian football would be one for the corresponding competition in England which would be an FA Cup match. I found out two days ago.
But the United boss also said that the £89 million man could be in line for a debut against Southampton next Friday night:
I don’t speak about him [Pogba]. He is suspended. I don’t speak about the ones that are not ready to play, so I forget Paul for a few days. Tuesday he will be ready to play against Southampton.
