French international Anthony Martial wants to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place in Jose Mourinho’s side according to the Manchester Evening News.
The forward has been linked with a move away from the Old Trafford outfit and was rumoured to have received interest from La Liga side Sevilla in the January transfer window. However, Martial wants to remain at United and establish a place in Mourinho’s starting XI.
Martial has been in and out of the side this season with the 21-year-old appearing 14 times in the Premier League, scoring four goals, including the decisive second goal in the team’s victory over Watford in the side’s last Premier League.
A £35 million signing from Monaco in 2015, Martial was a regular starter under Louis Van Gaal, but the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have limited the forward’s playing time this year.
However, speaking before United’s second leg against Saint-Etienne in the Europa League on Wednesday, Martial said:
I love Manchester. I love the club. I love the fans. I enjoy them backing me. I try to be as good as possible to make them happy. I want to stay as long as possible in this club.
Last year I played a lot I had possible to play back to back games. I enjoy playing and I have to wait.
We have a good group with many players. The coach tries to freshen the group and the players.
I work very hard. I work a lot and surrounded by great players. I am very lucky for that and very fortunate to train and play with them. I try to be focused.
I am sure next season will be even better.
