Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has made some perhaps surprising omissions from his squad to face Russian Premier League side FC Rostov on Thursday.
The squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Kieran O’Hara
Defenders: Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Forwards: Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Wayne Rooney and Luke Shaw have not travelled with the squad – suggesting that they may have had slight recurrences of their recent injuries.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan returned to training prior to the Bournemouth game but wasn’t fit enough to play – but he should be back to full fitness in time for Thursday.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be suspended for his next three domestic games following his elbow to Tyrone Mings at the weekend, so is certainly in line to play in Europe.
