Ibrahimovic nominated for PFA Player of the Year

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.

The Swede has enjoyed a sensational debut season in England, having scored 28 goals in all competitions – including 17 in the Premier League – since linking up with José Mourinho’s side on a free last summer.

He has also played a pivotal part in United’s trophy successes this season, scoring the winner in the Community Shield against Leicester City in August and a brace in the EFL Cup final against Southampton in February to guide the Reds to victory at Wembley.

Ibrahimovic is joined on the shortlist by five other Premier League stars: Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

While the 35-year-old has had a marvellous season, he is not expected to win the award, with Kante – who was nominated for the award last year due to his exploits with Leicester City – the bookmakers’ favourite to win when it is announced at Grosvenor House in London on April 23.

Hazard is also another favourite for the award and he has history on his side, having won PFA Player of the Year two years ago for his performances as Chelsea cruised to the Premier League title under Mourinho.
