Europa League final: Team News

The Premier League season may have finished on Sunday, but Manchester United still have real business to do in 2016-17 – as they face Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho and his men need to win the game to secure a place in the 2017-18 Champions League, having finished 6th in the league this season.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo out of action until further into next season and Eric Bailly suspended for the final, Mourinho had some big decisions to make as to who is in his squad for the club’s biggest game in years.

Here is the full list of players who have traveled to Stockholm this evening ahead of tomorrow’s massive final (including those who are injured).

Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira

Defenders: Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Axel Tuanzebe, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Matteo Darmian

Midfielders: Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Ashley Young

Forwards: Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial

Now including those who cannot play, there are 23 players in the squad – Jose needs to whittle this down to 18.

If we take out the suspended Eric Bailly, the injured Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw and the third ‘keeper in Joel Pereira, there are 19 players – meaning one more must miss out.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah is one of the more likely candidates to be cut from the final 18 as he hasn’t played since picking up an injury a few weeks ago.
