Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement as manager in 2013, Manchester United have been busier than they perhaps would have liked in the following transfer windows.
There has been a high turnover at players at Old Trafford under the reigns of David Moyes and more so Louis van Gaal, and that looks set to continue under Jose Mourinho once again this summer.
The Portuguese coach brought four new faces to the club last summer, with Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba all playing their part in what proved to be a successful enough season for the Red Devils.
But the latter of those new recruits, Pogba, was scoffed at by many opposition fans for not just his steep £89m price tag, but for the fact that he had left United on a free transfer just four years earlier, too.
So what are the chances of Mourinho bringing another former United player back to the club this summer? Take a look at five possible candidates who could be making their return to the Theatre of Dreams sooner rather than later.
