Manchester United’s last five trips to Russia

Manchester United travel to Russia to face CSKA Moscow in their second Champions League group stage game on Wednesday.

Having beat Basel comfortably in their first group game at Old Trafford, José Mourinho’s side will be looking to make it two wins out of two at the VEB Arena against the Army Men, who surprisingly beat Portuguese champions Benfica in their first group stage encounter.

The Reds will be considered massive favourites in Moscow, but if Viktor Gonarchenko’s men have a peek at United’s record in Russia, they will certainly fancy their chances when they come to town.

In their previous five visits to Russia (discounting the 2008 Champions League final win against Chelsea on penalties in Moscow), United have won just once and drawn four times, scoring just three goals in those visits.

It is certainly a record that does not make good reading for United fans, but Mourinho will be confident that the quality in his side should be enough to see them come away with all three points from Moscow.
