Manchester United are reportedly among a host of top European clubs who are keen to sign Gedson Fernandes from Benfica.
The 19-year-old has been widely tipped as one of Portugal’s brightest young talents and his performances at youth level for his side have alerted the likes of United and Juventus.
It’s believed that Roma had initiated contact with Benfica to discuss a move for Fernandes, but their proposal of around €20 million was reportedly rebuffed immediately.
This does not appear to have deterred The Red Devils, though, with Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, as translated by Sport Witness, claiming that Jose Mourinho’s side are in the race for Fernandes.
The prospect only recently penned a new deal with Benfica, keeping him at the club until 2023. However, it seems United have had their eye on the player for some time now, and may make efforts in the near future to sign him.
Fernandes’ release clause at Benfica is understood by O Jogo to be priced at €60 million.
