United looking at move for Atletico defender Hernandez
Manchester United are looking to make a move for Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez to resolve their defensive problems, according to the Daily Star.
He is predominantly a left-back, but can also play in central defence which would bring some more versatility to an ageing United back line.
The 22-year-old is a full French international and was part of their World Cup squad which were victorious in Russia this summer.
He is however, tied down to a long-term contract in Spain until 2024, which was signed prior to the World Cup.
It’s highly unlikely that Madrid will be looking to let go of a player who came through the ranks at the club.
Should United wish to make a move for the defender, he has a release clause of £72 million as part of his new contract.
Mourinho is keen to bring some defenders into the side having seen his team struggle in the defensive area and a number of the players playing out of position, on the wrong side of 30.
