Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is keen to return to action as soon as possible after he suffered a head injury during a sickening clash with Spain’s Dani Carvajal on Saturday, the Daily Star reports.

Shaw was stretchered off by medics after the clash and taken to hospital as a precaution, since returning in order to Manchester to recover fully.

Concussion protocol states that players are not permitted to return within a week of having sustained a serious head injury, therefor Shaw won’t be eligible to turn out for United against Watford on Saturday.

Ashley Young will most likely take Shaw’s position in the starting XI on Saturday, with Shaw keen to return to the side for United’s away match against Young Boys in the Champions League next week.

Jose Mourinho has criticised Shaw in recent seasons but has stuck-by him so far this campaign, despite United only winning two of their opening four League games to date.
