Newcastle handed much-needed injury boost with two players back in training

Newcastle are something of an injury-stricken team at present, but they have received good news ahead of Saturday’s game with Manchester United.

Florian Lejeune continues to return from a devastating ACL injury, and likely won’t be seen until 2019.

Salomon Rondon has been sidelined until after the October international break, and defenders Paul Dummett and Federico Fernandez were kept out of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Leicester City.

However, Rafael Benitez has received some good news at long last.

Dummett and Fernandez were reportedly full participants in training on Wednesday, according to The Mag.

The defenders have been first-choice options for Benitez this season, and their absences were felt at the weekend.

Kenedy dropped to left-back to cover Dummett, as Ciaran Clark slotted in for Fernandez.

Still win-less this season, Newcastle sit 18th in the table. The Magpies will seek to turn their campaign around on Saturday evening, when they travel to Manchester United – where they are likely to have Dummett and Fernandez available.
