Manchester United have confirmed that Jose Mourinho has left the club.

The club tweeted to confirm his departure following the defeat to Liverpool over the weekend.

There had been much speculation about Mourinho’s future and United have now confirmed their decision.

A caretaker manager will be put in place until the end of the season, with United looking to take their time over replacing Mourinho.

Mourinho’s infamous ‘third-season struggles’ have struck once again, with many expecting the former Chelsea boss to leave the club before the end of the season.

United have lacked cohesion and identity this season, with the club facing a battle to break into the top four and secure Champions League football.

Mourinho has been facing an uphill battle at Old Trafford this season as relationships with the likes of Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez continued to turn sour.
