If the snow wasn’t enough to get Manchester United supporters exciting this morning, RMC’s Mohamed Bouhafsi would have certainly done the trick.
The French news outlet revealed that Anthony Martial has agreed on a new five-year contract at Old Trafford until June 2024 and he’ll sign the extension on Friday.
Martial’s agent, Philippe Lamboley, suggested last summer that the 23-year-old wanted to leave United after public criticism by then-manager Jose Mourinho and a lack of game time following the signing of Alexis Sanchez in January.
Mourinho decided to sign Alexis from Arsenal despite Martial finding some of his best form at the club in the first half of the 2017-18 season and when the Frenchman expressed his desire to leave, he was happy for him to do so.
However, with a thought for United’s future, the club’s hierarchy blocked a move away and he’s been mightily impressive since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge last month.
Martial has scored more goals than any other United player since joining from AS Monaco back in 2015 and is second in the top goalscorer charts this term with 10 to his name.
He is – statistically – the most clinical frontman out of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ clubs though, finding the net every three shots he takes. This news comes as a huge boost for not just Manchester United’s prospects this season, but for the future too.
