Anthony Martial signs five-year contract extension
Anthony Martial has signed a new five-year contract extension which will keep him at Manchester United until the summer of 2024, with the option of a further year.
Since his arrival in 2015, the 23-year-old’s reputation has risen at Old Trafford and he’s now a solidified fan favourite, so this news will feel like a new signing to the United faithful.
The news will be even sweeter when you consider how close he’s actually gone to leaving the club over the past year after former manager Jose Mourinho put him up for sale as he targeted ageing stars Willian and Ivan Perisic.
Since his debut strike against Liverpool in September 2015, Martial has netted 45 times in 161 appearances for United, more than any other player to play for the club in that time period.
The signing of Alexis Sanchez 12 months ago shot his confidence massively and his career at Old Trafford seemed to be on its last legs in the latter stages of Mourinho’s tenure, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival last month acted as a revitalisation.
In the six games he’s played in under the Red Devils great so far, he’s contributed to six goals and only looks to be improving under a free-flowing style of play led by one of the most clinical frontmen ever to grace the club.
