Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his delight with Anthony Martial after the 23-year-old extended his Manchester United contract until 2024, with the option of a further year.

Martial’s Old Trafford career has been brought back to life since Solskjaer took charge in December after being on the verge of departing under former boss Jose Mourinho and he’s now committed his future to the club.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the tricky French winger put pen to paper on his new five-year deal on Thursday afternoon, Solskjaer heaped on the praise.

Anthony is one of those naturally gifted players that any coach would love to work with. For a young man, he has a good footballing brain which, when coupled with his exceptional talent, makes for a player with an exciting future ahead of him.

This is the perfect club for Anthony to progress his development as a top-class forward and we are all delighted he has signed a long-term deal.

It’s been a dream start for the caretaker manager, winning eight of his nine opening games in charge and remaining unbeaten, and Martial has also impressed, contributing the three goals in the six matches he’s featured in.

With Marcus Rashford in some of the form of his short career so far this season, both players act as huge prospects for not just United’s short-term aspirations, but also the future.

Martial will look to make headlines again and Solskjaer will be aiming to return to winning ways when the Red Devils visit Leicester City in the Premier League this weekend.
