Solskjaer: We must learn to play without Lingard and Martial
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested Manchester United need to look for a way to play their style of football without Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial after the duo were injured in Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
The United caretaker manager has constantly looked to use his wingers on the counter-attack during his successful stint at the club so far but was forced into taking his two preferred options off at half-time at Old Trafford.
Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez replaced them but failed to make an impact and Solskjaer told the club’s official website that United may need to look at different ways of playing when different players are available.
Jesse and Anthony are big parts of our squad and when they went out, in the second half we didn’t have enough movement. We maybe need to find a different way of playing when Jesse and Anthony are unavailable.
It’s likely that the Red Devils will be without both stars in the trip to Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday night, but supporters will be crossing fingers in hope that they’re ready for next weekend’s clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see what changes Solskjaer makes at Stamford Bridge.
