Manchester United fans have turned to social media to mock former player Alejandro Garnacho as Chelsea were dumped out of the Champions League by current holders Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG embarrassed Chelsea across both legs, exploiting individual errors at every turn. The eventual 8‑2 flattered the French side, though the Parisians were clearly the superior side throughout.

Yet it was Garnacho who bore the brunt of the abuse—not from the Stamford Bridge faithful, but from his former club, Manchester United.

The Argentine winger played just 33 minutes across the two Champions League ties against PSG, having little impact on a game that never went his way. He managed four shots throughout his time on the pitch, none of them coming close to troubling Russian goalkeeper Matvei Safonov.

Social media mockery

Alejandro Garnacho, Chelsea

A year ago, Garnacho was a fan favourite at United. Sure, he polarised opinions due to his lack of clinical finishing, but he was an academy graduate who had scored a goal in the FA Cup final for the club.

But since he forced his way out due to a poor relationship with former coach Ruben Amorim, United fans have turned on the academy graduate.

Many fans have commented on Garnacho not getting as much game time as he would like. When he pushed to leave Old Trafford, the Argentine reportedly said, “either Chelsea or I stay here and don’t play football for 6-12 months.”

Since joining the West Londoners, the winger has encountered limited game time, starting just 14 Premier League matches. He’s made the starting lineup in three Champions League games, three FA Cup ties, and a solitary League Cup outing.

One United fan was quick to highlight the irony: Garnacho left Manchester United for Champions League football at Chelsea… and now Chelsea are out, potentially missing next season’s UCL, while Michael Carrick has in pole position for Europe’s premier competition.

“Just realised that Garnacho left Manchester United to play Champions League football at Chelsea… now Chelsea are out and might not even make the UCL next season, while United is coming good again… he scriptwriters really cooked with this one cl.”

Poster boy to postman

One of the cruellest insults delivered to the winger was describing him as ‘poster boy to postman.’
The supporter wrote:

“From Poster Boy at United to Postman at Chelsea. Alejandro Garnacho ladies and gentlemen..”

In the 83rd minute, with Chelsea losing 3-0 on the night, Liam Rosenior delivered a note to Garnacho, who looked slightly puzzled with the instructions he was given.

A fan wrote:

“Alejandro Garnacho didn’t look convinced the moment Liam Rosenior passed the tactical note. Even Tosin looked clueless after receiving it.”

Other fans chimed in with one writing: “Garnacho played 5 mins and is the face of defeat. That’s what happens when you disrespect Manchester United! This is just the beginning…”

Another added: “Garnacho a puskas award winner at United, now been reduced to a note reader at Chelsea.”

One supporter praised Amorim: “Selling Garnacho is probably Amorim’s biggest achievement at United. May the universe be kind to him for helping us get rid of Garnacho.”

Another added: “Benchwarmer to paperboy??? What an upgrade.”

Chelsea have eight Premier League games left to salvage their season. They currently sit sixth, one point behind Liverpool, who occupy a Champions League spot if England maintains their position in the top two of UEFA’s coefficients.

They also have the FA Cup to focus on. Rosenior will hope to win his first trophy as a player, starting with a favourable quarter-final draw against Port Vale.
