- Manchester United monitor in-form winger
- Contract expires this summer
- Pursued by number of Premier League clubs
The rumours for the summer transfer window are already brewing around Manchester United.
When it comes to Premier League players linked with the Red Devils so far, the focus has been on Casemiro replacements. Names such as Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton have been prominent.
One name that is unexpectedly making the rounds is one of the league’s best performers this season. It was only last summer that he was being touted for a move to Leeds United, but this summer it is a different story. Some of the biggest English clubs are reportedly after him, deservedly.
With his contract winding down, it looks as though he will leave Fulham when his current deal expires in June.
Red Devils ‘monitoring’ Premier League winger
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Fulham winger Harry Wilson.
The star player’s future at the West London club is still very unclear, with the player and club putting all contract talks on hold as of January.
Moreover, there is also uncertainty around the future of manager Marco Silva, whose contract also expires. The Portuguese manager has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. It has been reported that he is still on the shortlist for the permanent manager role.
Wilson nearly swapped West London for West Yorkshire during the summer’s final hours. A deal sheet was even submitted for a move to Leeds United. However, Fulham pulled the plug at the eleventh hour, which was a gamble that has truly paid off. Fulham currently sit in ninth position, just four points behind sixth-placed Chelsea in the league.
The decision to keep the 29 year-old has been backed up by the Welshman’s output. Wilson has racked up 34 appearances and contributed eleven goals and seven assists across all competitions. It would be no surprise to see him nominated as a candidate for the Premier League Player of the Season award.
The Reds are not the only English club interested in the winger. Wrexham, Liverpool and Spurs are all vying for his signature too.
Wilson is a low cost INEOS target
It is almost unexpected for a player of Wilson’s calibre to become available for free in a few months time. It would be a low risk signing to bring the Fulham attacker to Old Trafford.
Additionally, it would follow a trend from last season to have a preference for proven, Premier League wingers. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha overachieved for their respective clubs last season. As a result, they were rewarded with a move to Old Trafford.
Whilst the priority is central midfield, the Red Devils do need to look at beefing up in other positions too. The right-wing position belongs to Amad Diallo, but under Michael Carrick, Mbuemo has been shifted into a centre-forward role. Continuing this would allow Wilson to compete against the Ivorian, whilst bringing a different threat to the team. However, his time with Wales shows that he is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder too.
The links to Spurs at this stage makes the most sense, given that Roberto De Zerbi prefers floating wingers. However, there is no guarantee that the North London club will survive relegation. Playing time at Liverpool could be readily available, with the impending departure of Mo Salah. However, they also face a predicament of whether they want to keep manager Arne Slot or not.
