- Juventus star wanted by Man Utd and Liverpool
- Transfer could hinge of Champions League qualification
- Available for around €60m to €70m to bolster midfield
Manchester United and Liverpool have reportedly made ‘initial enquiries’ for Juventus star Khephren Thuram.
The Frenchman is wanted by Premier League clubs including United and rivals Liverpool, who will be looking to bolster their midfield ahead of next season. The Old Trafford club are looking to sign at least one midfielder, replacing the outgoing Casemiro.
With the future of players such as Manuel Ugarte unclear, even more new faces could land to add to squad depth. Thuram joined Juventus from the French side Nice in 2024, which is owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.
Juventus Could be Forced to Sell
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, United are in pole position to move for the Juventus midfielder. The potential transfer is likely to hinge on the Bianconeri’s success or failure in Serie A.
A top-four finish will guarantee Champions League football. However, Luciano Spalletti’s side find themselves in fifth – trailing Como by three points.
Como are managed by former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard has had a remarkable season with the club and is set to upset the algorithm amongst Italy’s biggest clubs. Clubs like Lazio, Atalanta, Roma and Juventus themselves are set to miss out on Europe’s elite competition.
Due to financial constraints, Juve could be forced to sell one of its star players. Kenan Yildiz recently signed a new bumper contract with the club, making him unlikely to leave. Defender Bremer has also been described as ‘untouchable’, with Juventus willing to consider offers for other players.
Therefore, Thuram is a prime candidate for sale. The French international could cost around £52-£62 million. At the age of 25, he would be a considerable investment for any club looking for experience at the top level. At 6ft 4′, he would also have an attribute that can make him a leading Premier League midfielder with his aerial ability and technical prowess.
Familiar Name for INEOS
For Juventus, how they approach next season depends on their performance in Serie A. There is no other route for the club after they were knocked out by Galatasaray in the Champions League. It is make-or-break, which makes it an interesting situation for United to monitor.
Thuram is a familiar name at INEOS, having been their star player at OGC Nice until 2024. The co-owners of the Red Devils have a decision to make this summer. A big name signing is expected in the form of a defensive midfielder, upwards of £80m.
United themselves are on track to qualify for the Champions League. With just seven games to go, United boss Michael Carrick has steered the club into one of the most in-form sides in the second half of 2025/26.
