Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is reportedly being lined up to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami when his contract expires on 30 June.

Inter Miami have already made contact with the Brazilian’s camp, and the midfielder appears open to a move, drawn by both the project and the allure of life in Miami.

Casemiro would join a growing cast of global names who have made the switch in recent years and reunite with former adversaries from his Real Madrid days, lining up alongside Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul and playing under Javier Mascherano.

The just-eight-year-old club, co-owned by United legend Beckham, made history last year by winning the MLS Cup for the first time. They faced the Vancouver Whitecaps in the final, beating them 3-1.

Casemiro to join Messi?

Tell a football fan eight years ago that Lionel Messi would share a dressing room with Sergio Ramos and Casemiro at club level, and they would have laughed you out of the room.

In the fading light of the 2018 summer, when Casemiro and Ramos lifted a third successive Champions League with Real Madrid, the idea felt implausible.

Given the ferocity of the rivalry—and the assumption that Messi would retire at Barcelona—it almost seemed more likely they would somehow share an international stage than ever line up together at club level.

Yet football bends to chaos. Messi’s shock departure from Barcelona—driven by the club’s financial constraints—took him to Paris Saint-Germain, where he immediately linked up with long-time adversary Ramos, who arrived in the same window.

Now, five years on from his shock departure, Messi may be joining forces with yet another vehement rival, with Casemiro expected to join in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel:

“Inter Miami have started talks with Casemiro’s camp and have sent a first proposal. Casemiro is not expected to stay at Manchester United; he is not expected to change his mind. Inter Miami are really serious on the possibility of signing Casemiro. Talks are ongoing over the possibility of a free transfer.”

He added:

“It depends on the number of the contract [wage]. We have to see if the side [Inter Miami] and Casemiro can reach a financial agreement.”

Beckham could play an important role in persuading Casemiro to join the Herons. He was crucial in luring Messi to DRV PNK Stadium and still has connections to United, having recently backed Michael Carrick for the permanent job.

Casemiro’s replacement

With the Brazilian departing, Manchester United are preparing to spend big to replace their midfield maestro. Two prominent names continue to surface in transfer discussions: Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson.

However, both players could command fees of up to £100 million each.

And Manchester United are not the only team looking to buy these prominent midfield engine rooms.

Manchester City are preparing to wage war with their rivals, as they look to purchase both stars, whilst other Premier League elite sniff around Anderson, and AC Milan plot a move to repurchase Tonali.
