Manchester United offered chance to sign Arsenal star – It’s not Lewis-Skelly

  • Manchester United ‘offered’ Gabriel Martinelli
  • Arsenal winger scored for Brazil against Croatia
  • Red Devils also interested in Lewis-Skelly

Manchester United could be ‘offered’ the chance to sign Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli this summer.

The Brazilian has made 42 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this season, but has lost his place as a starter in recent times. He has started just nine Premier League games, but did assist in a recent 2-0 victory against Everton.

United have also made it known that they are interested in Myles Lewis-Skelly’s availability. Like Martinelli, the left-back has fallen down the pecking order and the player himself is looking towards an exit.

Arsenal to Make Room for Signings

According to TEAMtalk via Football365, Arsenal are ready to let go of the Brazilian star. In January, the Gunners were interested in bringing Antoine Semenyo to the club. Even the Red Devils were interested, but the Ghanaian went on to join Manchester City instead.

Bukayo Saka’s place on the right wing was not up for grabs, meaning that Semenyo would have played on the left wing. That is a position currently contested by Noni Madueke, Leandro Trossard and Martinelli. It makes at least one, if not two of those players disposable heading into the summer transfer window.

At just 24 years-old, Arsenal feel that Martinelli is someone they can bring in a considerable fee for. Alongside United, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and other European clubs are interested in his signature.

Martinelli is part of the Brazil squad currently on international duty. Manchester United’s Casemiro and Matheus Cunha are also part of the team. He scored in their latest 3-1 win against Brazil after coming off the bench. His best position is currently occupied by Vinicius Junior. Therefore, to keep his place in the squad he would want to remain relevant in his club career.

Left Side is a Liability for Reds

Even in the recent uptick in form, the left hand side has been an area of concern for Michael Carrick’s side.

Luke Shaw has slowed down considerably, which has called for a new left-back to be bought. Although Matheus Cunha has done well at left wing, he has evaded competition from Patrick Dorgu who has been out injured with a hamstring injury since the victory against Arsenal.

There has been talk of a potential return for Marcus Rashford if Barcelona are unwilling to trigger the option to buy. That is a familiar face for the left wing in recent years, but the player is happy to permanently move to the Catalan city.

Bringing Martinelli into the side would add another layer of explosiveness, pace and versatility to the side. United have looked at Hale End in recent years to prize Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven away from The Emirates. Therefore, a deal would not be impossible – just expensive. Come the end of the season, they may be looking to bring a Premier League winner to Old Trafford if Arsenal do go on to lift the league title.
