  • Star signed a new five-year contract last summer
  • Has started just one league match this season

It is understood that Manchester United have placed Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly on their radar as part of a shortlist of potential recruits for the left-back position. The highly rated defender signed a five-year contract last summer, but has started just one Premier League game this season.

Danyal Khan of Sky Sports has confirmed that Arsenal will need to sell this summer to fund reinforcements, though it remains unclear whether Lewis-Skelly will be among those departing.

The Englishman burst onto the scene in the 2024/25 season, featuring in 42 matches for Arsenal as they made the semi-final of the Champions League. This campaign, however, has dried up.

Mikel Arteta has favoured Riccardo Calafiori and Pablo Hincapie, leaving Lewis-Skelly on the fringes. Across all competitions, he has logged just 1,298 minutes—barely half the 2,543 he amassed last year.

The 2026 calendar has been even harsher: the full-back has started only a single Premier League match, against Liverpool on 8 January, leaving him searching for rhythm and opportunity.

As a whole, Lewis-Skelly has featured in just six matches this year, playing 394 minutes total.

Manchester United Left-back Search

For the past 12 years at Manchester United, one player has stood out for his consistency. In two ways, actually, he has been habitual.

Luke Shaw may rank as the fifth-longest serving player in the Premier League, but his time at the club has been repeatedly hampered by injuries. During his 12-year stint at the Red Devils, Shaw has missed 306 games, sidelined for a staggering 2,184 days.

The Englishman has spent more time sidelined than on the pitch.

Even in an impressive campaign this season, his physical limits have become impossible to ignore. The once rapid full-back has found it hard to overlap on the left-hand side.

Lewis-Skelly does not stand alone on United’s radar. Nathaniel Brown of Eintracht Frankfurt and Newcastle’s Lewis Hall also feature prominently as strong options for the Red Devils.

Could Lewis-Skelly be Tempted?

Born in Denmark Hill—just a mere seven miles from the Emirates Stadium—it would be incredibly hard to pry away a genuine fan of the club.

Having joined the academy at the age of eight, football for him has always revolved around Arsenal.

“I want a legacy,” the then 18-year-old said as he signed his name across his new five-year deal. “I want to win everything there is to win in the game, I want to win trophies on the biggest stages whilst being a person that’s always learning and stays grounded, which is so important.

” I’m definitely more experienced now. I know I’ve taken a lot of experience from the games – about the positive moments, the mistakes that I’ve made. I’m definitely more ready now for the next season. I just want to keep learning and keep improving.”

Yet despite his lifetime ties to the London club, circumstances may force his hand.

With gametime increasingly limited, the Arsenal star could face the prospect of leaving the club he has always loved to continue his development.
