Manchester United fans have urged the club to get Mateus Fernandes before his value “sky rockets.” The West Ham United midfielder is on the Reds’ radar.
The 21-year-old caught the eye in the Hammers’ FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Leeds United on Sunday (March 6th). He pulled the strings in the middle of the park and got his team back into the game with a 90+3rd-minute goal.
Leeds led 2-0 ahead of second-half stoppage time, but Mateus Fernandes played a key role in taking the game to extra time. It wasn’t to be for the Irons as they suffered a 4-2 loss on penalties after a 2-2 draw over 120 minutes.
Mateus to Manchester?
Mateus Fernandes has emerged as a potential option for Manchester United this summer. The Reds’ captain, Bruno Fernandes, has reportedly advised the club to target the West Ham man.
INEOS have drawn up a shortlist of midfielders that includes Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. But their skipper seems to think his fellow Portuguese countryman could be the real deal.
A potential deal for Mateus Fernandes might cost around £80m, although his team are embroiled in a relegation battle. Should they drop down a division, it could very well lead to a less expensive fee.
Man Utd Fans ‘Convinced’ by Mateus Fernandes
Mateus Fernandes’ performance against Leeds didn’t go unnoticed by Manchester United fans. Many believe he could be a good fit at Old Trafford.

One even suggested buying Mateus Fernandes and selling Manuel Ugarte who is linked with Newcastle:
“Get him and sell Ugarte tomorrow morning!!!”
The West Ham man has made 31 appearances across competitions this season, posting four goals and three assists. He only arrived at the London Stadium from Southampton last summer for £40m.
