- Ryan Giggs picks the perfect replacement for Casemiro
- Casemiro is leaving at the end of the season
- Manchester United are looking to sign a midfielder
Casemiro has announced that he will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season. The £70 million signing will not be renewing his deal, and the club are now hunting for his replacement
The Red Devils have been linked with Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton. Bruno Guimares and Sandro Tonali are also said to be on the wishlist this summer, but are not seen as the direct replacements for the former Real Madrid star.
Ryan Giggs has now chimed in on the Casemiro replacement talks and named the Premier League star who should be signed in the summer.
Ryan Giggs Wants Adam Wharton
Giggs was on the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel when he named Crystal Palace star Wharton as the ideal player for Manchester United. The Premier League legend believes that the Englishman is already at the level of the Red Devils.
The Welshman has also predicted that Manuel Ugarte will also leave along with the Brazilian this summer. He said:
“First of all we’ve got to deal with our players who have gone out on loan, [Marcus] Rashford, [Jadon] Sancho, [Rasmus] Hojlund, we’ve got all them to deal with, but the priority is definitely midfield, I can see definitely two. It looks like [Kobbie] Mainoo is going to stay, Casemiro is going to go, [Manuel] Ugarte is going to go, and we need to strengthen midfield without a shadow of a doubt. I always like a left-footer in the team so I wouldn’t argue with [Adam] Wharton, I think he looks, to me, like a Man United player.”
Explaining his decision to go with Wharton:
“Somebody who can handle the ball, passes forward, runs forward, Premier League experience, all of them have got Premier League experience, so I wouldn’t be against that. [Elliot] Anderson I like as well, solid player. Plays every game, I can see a Wharton and Mainoo, an Anderson and Wharton, I can see all of those scenarios, it just depends, British players are a lot of money and what we’re able to spend. But we need two midfielders.”
Wharton has impressed ever since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in early 2024. Reports claim that he expects to leave Selhurst Park but Liverpool and Real Madrid are also showing interest.
Manchester United interested in Wharton
English journalist Andy Mitten has reported that the Red Devils are interested in signing Wharton this summer. He said that the midfielder’s agent has already held talks with the club:
“I was told that Adam Wharton is a more realistic option (than Anderson). His agent is in Manchester, and Wharton is from the Lancashire area.”
Baleba was the top target last summer but his drop in form this season has seen him drop down INEOS’ wishlist. Anderson is reportedly on Manchester City’s radar too and it seems Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens are the frontrunners for the Forest man.
