- Manchester United left behind in race to sign Marcos Senesi
- The Red Devils have struggled with injuries in their defence this season
- United need to step up their efforts to sign Senesi
Manchester United have unfortunately fallen behind their league rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for a top defender who is set to be available for free in the summer.
United’s backline has been put in a tough spot this season due to multiple injuries. Players like Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, and Patrick Dorgu have all spent their fair share of time on the sidelines so far.
As a result, the club is looking to reinforce the position by bringing in some fresh new faces. It was earlier reported that Marcos Senesi is one of the top candidates for the job, and the Red Devils have even held talks with the player’s agent.
The Bournemouth centre-back is out of contract in the summer and is expected to leave as a free agent, making him an ideal signing for United. However, it looks like they have been handed a tough challenge before securing his signature.
According to Spanish journalist Matte Moretto, Chelsea and Tottenham are ahead of United in the race to sign Senesi. The Red Devils will have to step up their efforts in order to beat their rivals.
Manchester United should not pass on the opportunity to sign Marcos Senesi
Senesi has established himself as one of the top defenders in the Premier League. The Argentine is a regular at Bournemouth having started 97% of the league matchups. He has made 33 appearances in total this season for the club in all competitions.
The highly-rated centre-back is just 28 years old currently. So needless to say, he has a lot of football left in his boots. United could use someone like him to strengthen their defence.
Why Marcos Senesi should choose Manchester United over the others
United are currently third in the Premier League table and on the right path to qualify for the Champions League. Meanwhile, Chelsea are in sixth and will only be able to book a spot for themselves if they improve.
Meanwhile, the situation of Spurs is completely different. They are sitting in the relegation zone and, by the looks of it, a demotion to the lower division cannot be ruled out, which realistically puts them out of the race.
So overall, United will provide a better project for Senesi, with Champions League football almost guaranteed. The club have improved their performances immensely over the last few months under Michael Carrick.
As a result, the Red Devils are expected to fight for multiple trophies next season, and Senesi should consider being part of that squad. That said, the decision ultimately rests with the player regarding his next club. It will certainly be interesting to see what the future holds for the 28-year-old defender.
