- Manchester United defeated Chelsea
- Alejandro Garnacho heavily ridiculed
- Elliot Anderson still top target
Manchester United are starting the week with the mood sky high following a much-needed victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night. There had been somewhat of a drop in vibes around Old Trafford after a shock 2-1 loss to Leeds United last Monday.
Michael Carrick was handed a massive headache when three defenders were ruled out for the Chelsea game. Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro were all absent, meaning a new central defensive partnership was required.
Many felt that a weakened defence would result in another loss for Carrick’s men. But the Reds have bounced back from the Leeds disappointment.
Man United Beat Chelsea
Manchester United took all three points at Stamford Bridge following a well-earned 1-0 victory over Chelsea. Matheus Cunha bagged the winner, getting on the end of a superb low-driven cross from Bruno Fernandes.
The Blues had their chances and hit the crossbar twice, but brilliant defensive displays from Noussair Mazraoui and Ayden Heaven helped secure the victory. It means the third-placed Reds move 10 points clear of the west Londoners, who sit sixth.
Aston Villa are now three points behind the Red Devils and are in action today against Sunderland. If they drop points against the Black Cats, it all but confirms Champions League football next season.
Garnacho Ridiculed
One of the biggest talking points coming out of United’s win over Chelsea is Alejandro Garnacho’s dissapointing performance. The Argentine winger faced his former club for the first time since leaving in a £40m deal last summer.
There seems to be more to the story of Garnacho’s departure, as his ex-teammates didn’t seem very welcoming. This was only further fuelled by several players’ social media activity, including Luke Shaw, who posted a picture of himself pulling the winger to the ground.
Bruno Fernandes responded in the comments with a sticker that read ‘That’s a violation.’ But it wasn’t just the Reds squad prodding the stick, as even Mark Goldbridge jokingly said he was Carrick’s best player last night.
United ‘Not Giving Up’ on Anderson
Fabrizio Romano gave an update on United’s interest in Elliot Anderson and insisted that the club are still trying to win the race for his signature. The Nottingham Forest midfielder is INEOS’ top midfield target but Manchester City are viewed as the favourites to sign him.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said:
“Manchester United are not giving up. They know that Manchester City started their plan to sign the player already a long time ago, but the deal is not done, Man United want to be there. Man United was to try and believe that having the opportunity to offer Champions League football to the player could be important in getting closer to City.”
Forest are thought to be after a record fee for a Premier League midfielder to sell Anderson. That means he’ll cost over £100m.
