Mark Goldbridge Foolish Past Claim Over Ex-Man United Star Garnacho Goes Viral
  • Manchester United picked up three points against Chelsea
  • Garnacho’s poor game
  • Mark Goldbridge’s terrible call

Manchester United social media influencer Mark Goldbridge has seen a foolish past claim come back to bite him after confidently predicting a host of European giants would offer the club £100 million for Alejandro Garnacho.

United faced Garnacho for the first time this season when Michael Carrick’s men beat Chelsea 1-0 on Saturday. The Argentine came in for ridicule from his former club’s fans, teammates and even Goldbridge.

This marks the first time since the 1985/86 season—Ron Atkinson’s last full year in charge of United—that they have beaten Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool away from home in the Premier League.

Garnacho’s performance on the night has not gone down well with either set of fans.

Following the match’s conclusion, Luke Shaw posted a photo to his Instagram, with the English left-back’s first image in a carousel capturing him pushing Garnacho to the floor.

The post has already received one million likes and over 30,000 comments—more than 30 times the left-back’s usual engagement—with the comments themselves drawing hundreds of thousands of likes.

Another prominent United influencer, Angry Ginge, commented on a line from United’s famous song “Who’s that tw*t from Argentina,” and Shaw even liked the comment.

Goldbridge Feared Real Madrid Swoop

Goldbridge said on the United Stand over a year ago that he didn’t want to see Garnacho leave the club. He suggested that Real Madrid might come in for the winger this past summer and make him a Galactico-esque signing after bringing Kylian Mbappe to the Bernabeu a year prior.

“I don’t want to sell Garnacho, I would dig my heels in and say ‘you’re not going anywhere until you’re 23, you can stay with us for three years, we want at least three years out of you’ and you might get away with that, you might be able to hold the player down for that.”

He added:

“But INEOS might go ‘that’s £100 million of pure profit.'”

Goldbridge continued:

“We don’t know how we’re going to be run as a football club. You know, on the one hand we’re not going to spend big money on players, we’re going to recruit well, and on the other hand, what are we going to do about players like Garnacho when someone comes in and offers £100 million quid?”

Garnacho, in fact, departed the club for just £40m, £60m less than Goldbridge predicted. Chelsea already appear poised to cut their losses and find a new home for the footballer, with the Argentine falling short of expectations in a blue shirt so far.

The Blues are reportedly now open to selling Garnacho just short of a year after he arrived from United. Clearly, Goldbridge has shifted his stance since that video. Speaking on The United Stand’s match reaction, he took a more sarcastic tone when referring to Garnacho.

“We’ve got give a shout out to the Man of the Match, he’s had a lot of stick this season. Some people don’t like him, some people still want to give him a chance. Personally I think it was the best decision we made in the summer, definitely Manchester United’s Man of the Match.”

Garnacho Career Hits Brick Wall

Once the crown jewel of Manchester United, the past 18 months for the Argentine have simply catapulted him from stardom to oblivion. An academy graduate of the Red Devils, he once commanded respect and admiration throughout the fanbase.

Garnacho’s overhead kick is arguably his greatest moment on a football pitch, but his goal against Manchester City in the FA Cup final marked the point at which his stock reached its apex.

Now, a large portion of not only the United fanbase, but the Chelsea one as well, despise him.

After lashing out at Ruben Amorim and earning a place in the ‘bomb squad’, Garnacho responded by wearing an Aston Villa jersey with fellow exiled player Marcus Rashford’s name on the back.

The Argentine simply could not come back from that, with his ties to the fans completely severed.
