  • Paul Pogba speaks on Manchester United
  • Barcelona cooling interest in Marcus Rashford
  • Real Madrid name Aurelien Tchouameni price

Manchester United find themselves on the cusp of UEFA Champions League qualification following last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Chelsea. The Reds sit third ahead of Monday’s meeting with Brentford at Old Trafford.

While Michael Carrick and his troops have yet another extended break with no midweek football, there is never a quiet day for the football club. The latest transfer rumour has thrown up an ambitious move for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Frenchman’s compatriot, Paul Pogba, has also lifted the lid on his United career during an interview with Rio Ferdinand. One of his former teammates, Marcus Rashford, could be set to make a shock return to the Theatre of Dreams.

Pogba on Fernandes, Mainoo and Souness

Pogba is one of the most divisive footballers ever to ply their trade at United. The French midfielder was almost scapegoated throughout his time at Old Trafford.

The former Red has now reflected on the ups and downs of his £89m return to the club. He also gave his opinion on Kobbie Mainoo’s future amid reports of a contract being verbally agreed:

“He’s such a talented kid. He’s still young. It’s really difficult. It’s all about how he feels. He’s going to have all the clubs after him, this is for sure. Maybe it’s not the right decision. And it’s really hard for me to say he should leave when he’s loved by the people at United. He’s such a great player, big potential, and he can have a great career at Manchester United.”

Pogba also gave his thoughts on Bruno Fernandes and suggested he’d be receiving much more praise if he played for another team:

“If you put him in Man City, he’s in the Ballon d’Or top three.”

The Frenchman also finally responded to Graeme Souness after years of criticism from the Liverpool legend. He said he “didn’t know” who the pundit was.

Rashford Returns?

United won’t be welcoming Pogba back anytime soon, but that might not be the case with Rashford. The English forward has spent the season on loan at Barcelona after falling out with former coach Ruben Amorim.

Barca have a £26m buy option in the loan deal, but the Catalans are reportedly cooling on the interest. They feel he hasn’t made his mark or taken his chance following Raphinha’s hamstring injury.

That means there’s every chance the Englishman returns to Old Trafford this summer. Whether he’d still have a future at the club is undetermined but Carrick’s appointment might be pivotal.

Carrick previously managed Rashford during his first stint as interim coach. The player is at his best when his confidence is high and perhaps working under a familiar face will help get his United career back on track.

United Learn Tchouameni Asking Price

The Reds are set to replace Casemiro this summer, and Tchouameni is the latest name to emerge as a possible target. The French midfielder would be a huge acquisition, but not a cheap one.

Ben Jacobs claims that Madrid wants £70m for the 26-year-old, who has two years left on his contract. He’s thought to be content in the Spanish capital but wants to understand how a midfield overhaul at the Santiago Bernabeu will affect him.

Tchouameni would undoubtedly be an ideal Casemiro heir, but INEOS need to ensure he wants the move. Their recent success in the transfer market has been partly due to targeting players eager to join rather than weighing up other options.
