Manchester United icon Bryan Robson has heaped praise on Michael Carrick and highlighted four decisions that have contributed to the Red Devils’ impressive current form.

Carrick took over as interim manager at United following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, and it has been a welcome change for the club. The English tactician has put the team back on the right track. United are currently sitting in third place, with Champions League qualification almost certain.

The club’s legendary former midfielder made several tactical changes upon arriving. The recent results are a direct outcome of the manager’s decisions, and it seems Robson agrees.

Robson on Carrick Changes

The United legend appeared on the Talk of the Devil podcast and assessed Carrick since he replaced Ruben Amorim. He spoke highly of the changes made by the current head coach:

“Michael’s done a great job. He kept it pretty simple… Put Harry Maguire back in, Luke Shaw back to left back. Put Mainoo in to complement Casemiro. We’ve only lost two [of the games he’s been in charge of]. If he gets us in the Champions League, there’s no reason why Man United cannot give him the job and at least give him a go for a couple of years.”

United have lost just twice since Carrick took over. Moreover, they have beaten three top sides recently, including Chelsea (1-0), Arsenal (3-2), and Manchester City (2-0), which is no easy feat.

Carrick has successfully lifted the form of several United players. Casemiro is enjoying one of his best seasons, if not the best, in a Red Devils shirt. Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo, who struggled to get minutes under Amorim, has bounced back and been unleashed.

Maguire has been brought back in, and Shaw, shifted to his natural left-back position, is also currently performing at a very high level. Overall, the United squad looks convincing and is on the right track to challenge for major trophies next season if they can continue in this fashion.

It’s Carrick You know

There’s no reason to believe that Carrick isn’t the right manager for United, judging by his report card so far. The Champions League qualification should be the final piece of evidence needed to convince the management to give him the green light to continue at the club.

After all, he deserves most of the credit for the positive results. That said, there’s a small chance the owners might choose someone more experienced, even though we think that would be a mistake. Anyway, let’s see what the future holds for Carrick.
