- Manchester United’s midfield revamp
- The Madrid duo draws United’s attention again
- How important is the Champions League in attracting players
Manchester United are reportedly serious about signing one of two Real Madrid stars this summer. Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga have emerged as options to bolster the Reds’ midfield.
For next season, the Red Devils clear focus is the midfield. Having ticked the attacking and goalkeeping boxes last summer, the middle of the park has become top priority.
Casemiro is set to leave and Manuel Ugarte could also be sold. That leaves just Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park and his presence alone isn’t enough.
Now, United are looking to bring one of Tchouameni or Camavinga to Old Trafford. The French compatriots are regarded as two of the best defensive midfielders in Europe.
Man United Eyeing Real Madrid Pair
Real Madrid and Manchester United have built a strong and mutually beneficial transfer relationship over the years. Now the latest to join the list could be French midfielders Tchouameni and Camavinga.
According to Chris Wheeler of Mail Sport, United are “not pushing back” on suggestions that Tchouameni is a target. But Camavinga is another option given the French star “could be shopped around this summer.”
With regard to Tchouameni, this is no new development, as the English side has been tracking him closely since he left Monaco in 2022. Later, the midfielder ultimately chose Bernabeu. From then on, he became credited as one of the most dependable defensive midfielders.
Camavinga is another long-term target who was on the Red Devils’ radar before he joined Madrid in the summer of 2021. It appears more likely that he would be the one to make way at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Tchouameni and Camavinga remain tied down on long-term deals until 2028 and 2029, respectively. However, following a season without silverware, Florentino Perez is planning for a significant rebuild. If United could provide a good offer for either it might persuade the Spaniards to cash in.
Champions League return could favor United
The timing of the transfer was spot on. With Michael Carrick reshaping United, a successful season now looks firmly within reach. Needing just six points from the remaining games, United are on the verge of Champions League football.
Chelsea’s collapse has favoured United. Wins over Brentford and Liverpool could seal the European spot. Casemiro and Jadon Sancho’s anticipated departures following their contracts expiring will help clear the wage bills.
Champions League qualification is crucial in helping the club attract top players to Old Trafford. Whether Tchouameni and Camavinga are open to a move remains to be seen.
