- Manchester United ramp up interest in Real Madrid star
- United are looking to reinforce midfield this summer
- Could a French pair be on their way to the club?
Manchester United are continuing to monitor the situation of Aurelien Tchouameni, as well as his teammate for Real Madrid and France, Eduardo Camavinga, as the Red Devils prepare for a revolving-door summer. Both names feature prominently in United’s midfield shortlist.
Midfield maestro Casemiro has already confirmed he will leave when his contract expires on 30 June, whilst Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte has done little to impress the higher-ups at the club, and is likely to leave the club with the Brazilian.
United will look to do business in the Premier League first, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson sitting high on their shortlist.
INEOS have their transfer recruitment strategy set at younger players who they can turn into bona fide superstars, and Anderson fits this mould perfectly.
However, the Englishman’s price now hovers around the £100m mark, with rival interest—most notably from rivals Manchester City—complicating any move.
United will be hoping for a move for the Forest midfielder, but ned more than just one addition.
Tchouameni is seen as a top-tier replacement for Casemiro, as the Red Devils look to reshape their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Tchouameni Link Gains Legs
According to tier-one source Simon Peach of the Press Association, the Red Devils are weighing up a move for Aurelien Tchouameni as the club continues to assess their midfield options ahead of the summer window.
Peach also added that United want at least two midfield additions to sit alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in the centre of the park, with Mainoo set to sign a new and improved contract ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
That stance aligns with comments from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who stated that United “will go for two midfielders in the summer,” with the club targeting “important names, not small names.”
However, Romano tempered expectations regarding Tchouameni, adding: “He is appreciated, but at the moment from Real Madrid, they are not receiving any indications of doors open about a potential exit.”
United’s brief is clear. They want a midfielder capable of complementing both Mainoo and Fernandes while also anchoring the unit—a player dominant in the air, physically assertive, and able to operate almost as a bodyguard behind them, yet still mobile enough to contribute box-to-box.
Carrick Decision Awaits
Ironically, the profile United now search for mirrors that of Michael Carrick. Since departing in 2017, Carrick has completed his coaching badges, stepped in as caretaker, managed Middlesbrough FC for two and a half years, and now finds himself back at United as interim manager.
In the years between, United have rotated through a succession of midfielders, none of whom has fully replicated the control, positional intelligence, and composure Carrick once offered at the base.
Now, in a twist of symmetry, Carrick oversees a side still searching for his successor on the pitch.
His early tenure in the dugout has already reshaped the midfield dynamic, with United winning eight of his first 12 matches in charge. Structure has returned, balance has improved—but the long-term solution still requires the right personnel.
As United edges closer to Champions League qualification, the need becomes more acute. The next evolution of this side hinges on finding a midfielder who does not just fill a role, but defines it.
