Fabrizio Romano Confirms Manchester United Interest in Real Madrid Star

  • Manchester United are keeping tabs on Real Madrid midfielder
  • Aurelien Tchouameni is linked to Manchester United
  • United could be in for the Real Madrid duo

Manchester United continue to monitor the situation surrounding Real Madrid pair Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga. As the club prepares for a revolving-door summer, both names feature prominently among those linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Casemiro has already confirmed he will leave when his contract expires on 30 June, while Manuel Ugarte could follow, with the Uruguayan attracting a growing list of suitors.

United will look to do business in the Premier League first, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson sitting high on their shortlist. However, his price now hovers around the £100m mark, with rival interest—most notably from Manchester City—complicating any move.

United, however, need more than one addition in midfield. Consequently, the French pair present themselves as viable candidates, particularly with Madrid willing to listen should the price align.

The Red Devils will aim to drive down any potential fee, as they look to reshape their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

French duo to United?

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano United “will go for two midfielders in the summer.” They are expected to be “important names, not small names.”

Romano added:

“Tchouanmeni is appreciated, but at the moment from Real Madrid, they are not receiving any indications of doors open about a potential exit in [the] summer transfer window.”

The French midfielder has made 45 appearances across competitions this season, posting two goals and as many assists. He’s clearly an important player at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Romano implied this:

“For the moment, who doesn’t appreciate Aurelien Tchouameni, but to even think about any possibility to get him, you need to understand what Real Madrid wants to do, and at the moment from Real Madrid, there are no indications of club interest to get rid of Aurelien Tchouameni.”

As it stands, Elliot Anderson remains at the forefront of United’s plans. The club has prioritised proven Premier League profiles over the past year, and Anderson fits the INEOS mould—young, dynamic, and already acclimatised to the league.

Even so, United are not restricting itself to a narrow pool; instead, it is casting a wide net across Europe’s midfield market. As Romano alluded to, the club seeks marquee additions to replace Casemiro—players capable of anchoring midfield while also supporting the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.

Midfield Rebrand

United have searched for a midfield heir to Michael Carrick ever since his departure in 2017. In the years since, the club has cycled through a succession of midfield options.

Carrick himself transitioned into coaching, took interim charge, spent two and a half seasons at Middlesbrough, and now finds himself back in the dugout at Old Trafford.

This time, his chances of remaining in the role feel stronger, particularly with United closing in on a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2023. What they still lack, however, is a player in his mould.

With the likes of Anderson, Sandro Tonali, Tchouameni, and Camavinga all under consideration, United have the opportunity to transform their midfield into something far more refined this summer—less Fiat 500, more Rolls-Royce.
