  • Man Utd have long been linked to Harry Kane
  • Bayern Munich striker has scored 54 goals this season
  • Benjamin Sesko needs competition

Manchester United confirmed their Champions League status on Sunday with a 3-2 victory over bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are now full steam ahead in preparations for a return to Europe’s premier competition, and they are reportedly eyeing a statement signing to mark their comeback in style.

Harry Kane has long been linked to United, most recently in the summer of 2023, when he departed Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich. He has since strengthened his reputation as one of the world’s most deadly strikers, scoring 139 goals in 143 games across three seasons.

United refused to bow down to Spurs’ nine-figure transfer fee demands three years ago, instead opting to splash £72million to sign Atalanta youngster Rasmus Hojlund. But Old Trafford figures could be about to launch an attempt to right their wrongs and lure Kane back to the Premier League this summer.

Man Utd prepare Harry Kane pursuit

According to Fussballdaten, United are set to make an audacious play to sign Kane at the end of his third season at Bayern.

It’s claimed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are willing to stretch the summer budget to the limit, with plans in place to make the 32-year-old striker the Premier League’s highest-paid player.

Kane has just over one year remaining on his £21.5m-per-year contract at the Allianz Arena, which could open the door for a potential exit.

A Premier League return could tempt the England captain, given he is 47 goals off Alan Shearer’s record of 260 in the competition, which he seemed destined to break at Spurs.

Benjamin Sesko needs support

Benjamin Sesko, Hojlund’s replacement at Old Trafford, has enjoyed a positive debut season in England after his £74m arrival from RB Leipzig.

The towering 22-year-old’s scruffy strike against Liverpool was his 11th in 17 Premier League starts and 12th across 18 starts in all competitions.

Yet, he is Michael Carrick’s only natural senior striker. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have also led the line this term, while Joshua Zirkzee has underwhelmed at United and could leave this summer.

United reportedly want to recruit an experienced striker to support Sesko during next season’s busier schedule (The Athletic). There is currently no better fit for that role on this planet than Kane.
