  • Man City boss reportedly ‘leaving’
  • Supporters think it could be of huge benefit

Manchester United fans are celebrating the news that Pep Guardiola is reportedly leaving Manchester City for several reasons. First of all, seeing the back of the Spaniard has long been desired due to his dominance in English football.

A report from The Sun claims Guardiola has decided to step down as City manager. His last game in charge is set to come on Sunday when his side face Aston Villa.

Guardiola has been at the Etihad since July 2016 and guided the Sky Blues to six Premier League titles. He also joined Sir Alex Ferguson as the only manager to win a continental treble.

Pep Guardiola ‘leaving’ Man City

It’s claimed that Guardiola will bid farewell and that City have begun communicating his decision to club sponsors. An open-tour bus parade is scheduled for Monday for the ‘noisy neighbours’ to celebrate his achievements and career.

Many of the Old Trafford faithful will also be celebrating because he has been a winner throughout his Etihad spell. His departure will have a huge impact not just on the blue side of Manchester but on the entire Premier League.

That said, most fans are pointing out that City’s main selling point to Elliot Anderson had been the chance to play under Guardiola. With the Spaniard no longer at the helm, many feel the Reds now have a real opportunity to beat their rivals to the Nottingham Forest midfielder.

Man Utd fans hope Anderson’s head turns

Anderson is at the top of both United and City’s wishlists ahead of the summer transfer window. He looks increasingly likely to leave Forest and a fee of £100m+ could seal his signature.

The 23-year-old had reportedly been leaning towards moving to the Etihad. That stance might well change now that Guardiola is set to depart.

United fans believe that could be the case and are now optimistic that Anderson might end up at Old Trafford.

One supporter on X wrote: “Elliot Anderson doesn’t even have the excuse of playing under Pep to go to City now. Please, man.”

Another wrote: “I know Elliot Anderson is the preferred midfield choice for many, but if Pep is leaving City, which is being reported this evening, I wonder if that gives MUFC a better chance of securing him.”

One fan added: “Pep Guardiola was City’s sole selling point. Now that he’s gone, I don’t see any compelling reason why Elliot Anderson would choose City over United. The only potential stumbling block to Elliot Anderson’s move to United is Nottingham Forest’s financial demands now.”

Another said: “Pep news is another reason for Anderson to pick United now… no brainer at this point.”

One replied: “Guardiola leaving City should strengthen United case to get Eillot Anderson.”

Anderson has been superb this season and put in a sensational performance against Michael Carrick’s Reds on Sunday. United won 3-2, but he showcased his enormous talent, registering two assists at Old Trafford, where fans and the club hope he’ll be playing his football next season.
