- Benjamin Sesko set to miss Man Utd vs Brighton
- Slovenian striker’s shin injury rules him out
- Reds travel to the Amex on May 24th
Benjamin Sesko is reportedly set to miss Manchester United‘s final game of the Premier League season when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion next Sunday. The Slovenian striker has been absent since a 3-2 win over Liverpool on May 3rd.
According to Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun, Sesko is expected to sit out the encounter with Brighton due to a shin injury. He aggravated the issue in the win over Arne Slot’s Reds earlier this month.
Sesko has been in superb form since Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim in January. He has found the back of the net seven times in 13 games.

No Sesko vs Brighton
Sesko’s shin problem worsened against Liverpool when Ibrahima Konate pushed him into the advertising boards at Old Trafford. He played on for the rest of the first half but came off at halftime.
The 22-year-old’s absence is a blow for Carrick, who will have been keen to have the Slovenian available against Brighton. His side missed his firepower in a 0-0 draw against Sunderland and missed chances were constant in a 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest.
With the former RB Leipzig frontman out, it could mean Bryan Mbeumo continues to lead the line against Brighton. The Cameroonian started up top in the Forest win and finally got himself back on the scoresheet to take his tally for the season to 11 goals in 33 games across competitions.
Sign a new striker
Sesko’s absence makes it clear that a new backup striker is needed this summer. Joshua Zirkzee has struggled since joining the club, and the Dutch attacker’s future is in doubt.
INEOS don’t need to make a glamorous signing but just a marksman who can ease the goalscoring burden on Sesko. The likes of Leeds United’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brighton’s Danny Welbeck fit the bill, given their Premier League experience.
Sesko had to wait until the second half of the season to become a regular starter. He’s now the undisputed number nine in Carrick’s team.
With United returning to the UEFA Champions League next season, depth is crucial. That includes all areas of the squad but particularly up front if the club wish to challenge for major honours.
