- Bruno Fernandes set to star for Portugal at World Cup
- Man Utd captain named in Roberto Martinez’s squad
- Fernandes’ country have never won the tournament
Bruno Fernandes is eyeing World Cup glory with Portugal, aiming to win the competition for the first time in the country’s history. The Manchester United captain is one of two Reds named in Roberto Martinez’s squad for the tournament.
The 31-year-old will undoubtedly be one to watch during the competition. He’ll arrive in the USA, Canada and Mexico off the back of his best season in United colours.
Fernandes has yet to win a major trophy with Portugal, although he did win the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025. He will likely bid farewell to Cristiano Ronaldo, who is expected to retire from international football after the tournament.

Bruno Fernandes World Cup
Portugal’s World Cup campaign starts in Group K and they first face DR Congo on June 17th. Martinez’s men then take on Uzbekistan on June 23rd before encountering Colombia on June 28th.
Fernandes’ inspired form for United could be of huge benefit to Selecao das Quinas out in North America. If he is firing on all cylinders, there’s no reason the European nation can’t win the tournament for the first time in their history.
