Michael Carrick Handed New Manchester United Schedule Gap After Fulham Trip

Michael Carrick has been handed a new early-season Manchester United schedule gap after the club confirmed the 2026/27 international-break structure has changed. United’s fixture release has already placed Carrick’s side away to Hull City on Saturday 22 August and at Fulham on Saturday 19 September, but the calendar twist comes immediately after that Craven Cottage trip.

The September and October international windows are being reshaped for next season, leaving United without a Premier League fixture between Fulham away and Tottenham Hotspur at home on Saturday 10 October, according to a fresh update from Manchester United.

What the change means for Carrick

For Carrick, the gap is more than an admin note. United are balancing a Premier League start that includes Hull City, Ipswich Town, Everton, Manchester City and Fulham before the pause, so that three-week spell could become an important reset point before the autumn run sharpens.

It also gives the manager a cleaner training block around players who are not away with their countries. That matters in a season when United’s Champions League return will already stretch preparation time and selection rhythm.

The immediate focus remains the opening trip to Hull, but the calendar now contains a clear early checkpoint: survive the first five league games, then use the merged break to refine the side before Tottenham visit Old Trafford.
