Manchester United are reportedly ready to turn attention toward their left-sided options once their midfield rebuild moves forward, with Mateus Fernandes still central to the club’s transfer thinking. United have already agreed a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson and are also expected to pursue Fernandes, according to a fresh transfer update from The Sun.
The report says United are weighing up whether the next problem position should be left wing or left-back, with Crysencio Summerville, Lewis Hall and Antonee Robinson among the names tied to that side of the pitch.
Fernandes pursuit shapes United’s next transfer call
Fernandes matters because United’s midfield plan has become the first piece of the wider rebuild. If Ederson and the West Ham midfielder both arrive, Michael Carrick would have more legs and ball-carrying power centrally, allowing recruitment staff to move into the next area of need.
That left-sided question is not a small one. Luke Shaw is entering a delicate contract phase, Patrick Dorgu has been used higher up the pitch, and Harry Amass or Diego Leon may still need loan football before they are trusted across a Champions League season.
For supporters, the encouraging part is that United’s plan appears sequenced rather than scattered. Fernandes may not be the final move of the summer, but his pursuit could define how quickly the club can attack the next one.
