Manchester United will begin Michael Carrick’s first full Premier League season away to Hull City before facing Manchester City in the same week as their Champions League return.
The 2026/27 fixture list gives United an opening trip to newly promoted Hull on Saturday, August 22, followed by Ipswich Town at Old Trafford a week later. Carrick’s side then visit Everton before the first Manchester derby of the campaign, with City due at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 12, according to Sky Sports’ Manchester United fixture guide.
Carrick’s Early Run Has A Clear Pressure Point
The opening looks kind on paper, but the derby timing changes the feel of United’s start. A home game against City immediately before the Champions League rhythm begins gives Carrick an early test of rotation, nerve and momentum.
United’s autumn also contains awkward away markers at Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal before Christmas, while those same three clubs all come to Old Trafford during a 35-day stretch in January and February.
That split makes the first month important. If United bank points quickly against Hull, Ipswich and Everton, the derby becomes a chance to make a statement. If they stumble, Carrick’s first European campaign as United boss will begin with domestic pressure already building fast.
