Arsenal’s move around Bruno Guimaraes has sharpened a familiar Manchester United transfer question: how long can Michael Carrick wait for the perfect Casemiro replacement?
The Sun reports that Arsenal have held talks with the Newcastle United midfielder’s representatives, with no club-to-club contact yet and no indication that Guimaraes is pushing to leave St James’ Park. Crucially for United, the same report states that they would be interested if a deal became possible.

United need discipline, not another auction
This is where United’s recruitment department has to be cold. Guimaraes is Premier League-proven, press-resistant and aggressive enough to carry the ball through midfield pressure, but Newcastle’s stance means this would not be a cheap correction.
United have already been linked with a broad midfield list, from Aurelien Tchouameni to Mateus Fernandes. That context matters. Chasing every premium name risks inflating the market before Carrick has locked down the exact profile he wants beside Ederson.
The attraction is obvious. Guimaraes would bring control, edge and top-end Premier League experience to the space Casemiro has vacated. The danger is just as clear: Arsenal’s early movement could turn a United admiration brief into another expensive auction.
For now, United should watch closely, make their valuation clear and avoid reacting to Arsenal’s timetable. The midfield rebuild needs authority, but it cannot be built on panic.
